46th meeting of Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Organization

13 June, 2023

Օn 13 June 2023 Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Vahe Gevorgyan participated in the 46th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), held online.

Commending Serbia for the successful chairmanship, Deputy Minister Gevorgyan expressed Armenia’s support to strengthening the efficiency of the Organization to adapt it to the evolving challenges.

In his statement, Vahe Gevorgyan presented the national macroeconomic policies and legislative reforms and highlighted Armenia’s double-digit economic growth and the significant increase of foreign trade volumes, including with several BSEC member States. He reiterated Armenia’s position on unblocking the communications in the region on the basis of sovereignty, territorial integrity and national jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia.

The Deputy Minister stressed that Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions against sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia challenge national economic development and regional economic cooperation.  He stressed that any reference to the sovereign territory of Armenia as a “corridor” constitutes a territorial claim against Armenia, which can undermine the regional peace and security.

Vahe Gevorgyan drew the participants’ attention to the ongoing blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan and its socio-economic consequences and underscored that Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions and policies of land blockade, in an attempt to economically suffocate the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and deprive of their means of subsistence, cannot become a basis for lasting and sustainable peace.

The Council of Ministers endorsed a number of important resolutions, decisions and recommendations and approved Armenia’s candidacy as the country-coordinator of the BSEC Working Group on Culture for 2023-2025.
