Presentation on Armenia’s innovative projects to bridge the gap between education and labor market and promote future skills

15 November, 2019

The Delegation of Armenia delivered presentations on “Edu2Work” and “Future Skills” projects in the meetings of the BSEC Working Groups on Education and Science and Technology held at the headquarters of the BSEC Organization on November 14-15, 2019.

In the first presentation, the Armenian Delegation showcased “Edu2Work” project launched by the National SDG Innovation Lab in partnership with the Institute of Public Policy and the Government of Armenia.  Designed to bridge the gap between education and labor market through data-driven and human-centered policies the project will eventually lead to reskilling and upskilling opportunities, more people in employment and higher economic growth in the country by applying innovative methods such as scraping and foresight analysis, behavioral experimental interventions, awareness raising and in-country capacity building. It has three main components: data innovation and analysis of the Armenian labor market, design of experimental interventions together with UK partners, and development of actionable policy recommendations, which will be in the Government’s “Work Armenia” initiative targeting human capital development, employment promotion and policy reform.

The presentation elaborated on a pilot project “Future Skills and Jobs for Armenia’s Rural Youth” designed by UNDP’s Kolba Lab in close cooperation with the Armenian Government. Its overarching goal is to build aspiration towards positive future and expanded economic opportunities for Armenia’s most vulnerable youth groups in rural areas of Armenia with an offer of ambitious economic opportunities and new employment frameworks. The project will apply the Skolkovo-tested labor foresight methodology in the targeted regions and result in positive dynamics in formal employment like increase in self-employment, social and innovative entrepreneurship and freelance opportunities, preventing urban migration and internal brain drain inside the country.

In conclusion, the Armenian Delegation highlighted the importance of collaboration among BSEC Member States in bridging the gap between the education and labor market, securing competitive and sustainable jobs for youth, and promoting innovative and startup projects to this end.
